Mr. Palmer Hayden,
123 West Third Street,
NEW-YORK, U.S.A.

Dear Sir,
Mr. Henry W. Dunning, late Post and late Department Commander, has transferred to me your letter of December 27th in connection with your repatriation through the American Aid Society, by the SS" MAJESTIC", from Cherbourg, on August 10th, 1932.

It is really a pleasure to feel that whenever we have been able to assist one of our comrades that when he begins to get back upon his feet he remembers the helping hand of the American Legion.

I have taken up the matter of the original cost of your repatriation which implied an immediate disbursement by our Post of Francs: 1,128.15. Unfortunately this also implied that your Passp̂ort was stamped by the United States Consulate General and recorded at the State Department in Washington, that no further passport for France could be issued you unless the total value of transportation was refunded as, at that time, we were entitled to a 50% reduction through the American Aid Society, therefore, there would remain to completely clear your record, and identical sum of Francs: 1,128.15 which would be refunded to the American Aid Society.

If you will therefore kindly remit the sum of Francs: 2,256.30 we will reimburse ourselves and the American Aid Society and you will then be completely free of all further obligation. Please make your refund by International cheque or draft to :

Welfare Chairman, Paris Post No. 1
The American Legion,
49, rue Pierre Charron, Paris, France.

and address your envelope in the same way.

Thanking you for your very loyal and consciencious way of remembering the past, I am,
Most sincerely yours,
Arthur W. Kipling
