JORDAN, IDAHO STEWART E. MCCLURE, CHIEF CLERK JOHN S. FORSYTHE, GENERAL COUNSEL February 27, 1964 Mr. Palmer C. Hayden 127 West 56th Street New York, New York 10010 Dear Mr. Hayden: Thank you for your letter of February 1 concerning Pershing Hall in Paris. I can appreciate your interest in this matter. Congress is not ousting Paris Post No. 1 from its charge of the Hall. The fact is that the American Legion which has jointly supported the program with the government has indicated its desire to relinquish its part in support of Pershing Hall and it is for this reason only that Congress is seeking a new source for its administration. The enclosed report of the Committee on Veterans Affairs of the House of Representatives will further explain the purpose of this bill now before Congress. With best wishes, Sincerely, Javits Jacob K. Javits, U.S.S. JKJ:lgo Enclosure
