Friday 8pm 9/12

Hi,

I was about to notify the police & instigate search parties in Portland, Boston, N.Y airports etc. when your letter came today. What a relief to know your trip was so easy & you & apt. are OK. (I thought of phoning you, as I [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] was beginning to imagine all sorts of mishaps along the way between here & N.Y.)

What perfect weather here ever since the "hurricane" - as a matter of fact, the air cleared the minute the winds died down that night. (Did you get my 1st letter?) I go out twice a day before lunch - mail, & after, to sketch - Lobster Cove, Xmas Cove, Crow's Nest, Burnt Head, & this afternoon to the rocks below Burnt - with my inks, camera, & pick, & returning with apples from that tree by the well (now they're very ripe & delicious) and chanterelles from the edge of Burnt H.

Tonite I had a very fine supper - & suggest you try it: 2 chicken thighs, floured, salt & pepper, browned in frying pan, to which add: onions, 1/2 lg. can canned tomatoes (not [[strikethrough]] sa [[/strikethrough]] tom. sauce), rosemary, (lots), soy sauce & white wine - cover & simmer for 1/2 hr.

I had it with spaghetti with pesto, & [[strikethrough]] cooked [[/strikethrough]] pole beans, & some of that gigantic can of apricot juice you left.

The chicken was just the dish for taking a shower in the time it takes to cook.

Too bad about the hi-fi. I suspect it's only a matter of a pulled out plug - but don't fool around

[[left margin]] Enclosed letter from Barbara - also some new stamps - pretty ugly, I think, compared with the Canadian stamp on Barbara's letter - and considering the grandeur of the occasion it's meant to commemorate. [[/left margin]]
