Life has repeated the unpardonable pre war mistake of portraying American minority groups as colorful, quaint, exotic, in so-called native dress.

The Hawaiian Islanders today wear [[strikethrough]] Ameri [[/strikethrough]] American dress, speak, think, act American.

The Chinese girl, instead of prettily waving a peacock feather fan, is far more likely to be pecking [[strikethrough]] at a typewriter, [[/strikethrough]] away on an Underwood typewriter in an airconditioned office, sneaking in a paragraph or two from a Collier's short short, when the boss isn't looking.

War or pre-war, the "pure Japanese" (An American, of course) would look more natural with a bottle of Coca Cola instead of that imported fan in her hand.
