by Valasquez.  In the Dutch section were the Frans Hals portraits with their great simplicity.  We saw the great picture by Turner of Dido rebuilding Carthage.  He requested, in his will, that this picture be placed between two of Claude's of similar style.  It is far superior.

In the evening we went to the Criterion on Piccadilly Circus.  It is one of the Well known restaurants of London. The style was dignified and the music good.  We had table [all vote?] dinner, which was very well served.  After our dinner, we went across the street to the Pavilion, one of the English music halls.  Sometimes, it was quite hard to understand the English humor.  Some parts of the performance were in better form than the American and others cheaper.  It was a long show, opening at seven forty five and was not over when we left at eleven o'clock P.M.
