In the evening we walked down to the pretty little harbor and went for a row to Bockstown, a settlement that is supposed to have been started by Spaniards who came ashore after the defeat of the Spanish Armarda. 

July 7, 1908
Tuesday afternoon we walked through Hobby Drive of about three miles. It was a lovely road shaded by luxuriant trees covered with ivy and gray moss and the ground was carpeted by beautifully colored moss and ferns grew everywhere. At several bends in the road were picturesque stone bridges. Through the boughs of the trees we had lovely views and glimpses of the sea. At one place we saw a charming view of Clovelly.

July 8, 1908
Wednesday afternoon although it had been raining, we left by coach between showers to start on our way to Lynton. It was rather a long drive so we stopped over night at Ilfracombe. The town was very common, but had an interesting rugged coast with a booming surf.
