Tuesday morning we spent in Westminster Abby. It impressed me as a large rambling tomb, rather than a church. Many of the Royalty and England's great men are buried there and one corner is given to the poets.

Different kings have added on their own private chapels. In Edward the Confessors chapel is the coronation chair, that has been used since the time of Edward I. whose sword and shield hangs near it. Edward I. had the chair made to enclose the sacred stone the Scotish kings were crowned on and had it brought to the Westminster.

In Henry VII chapel on either side are his knights banners hanging in a row over their seats.

The high altar at which the king was crowned and the chancel are rich in color. Standing
