out after a dark, dismal day, which had delayed the yacht twelve hours. On entering the fjords, on either hand, is a mountainous land of rock, very rich in color and scarcely any vegetation. The land was formed by glaciers and very sharply outlined and at a distance gives the appearance of lava. It was a very picturesque sight, with little square white houses dotted here and there with dull red roofs and the sun forming golden clouds in the fog banks and dimly saw the town of Haugesund enveloped in the mist.

The yacht anchored off of Haugesund, although it is not a stopping port on the cruise, to wait for the mist to clear.

During the morning everyone went ashore and made the best of things. The harbor is rather picturesque, but the town is not much to see. The air was bracing and we took a brisk walk out toward the country.

Later in the afternoon it cleared off beautifully and the boat went steadly on it's way, trying to catch up to it's schedule by reaching Bergen
