The scenery in Norway is very grand and in places sublime. The Fjords are called the roads of Norway. I do not see how the Norwegians could be anything but a stronge race, living in such a land. There are very few cities, just small habitations in the valleys which are very primitive. The roofs of the houses are mostly grass and moss. The hay from fields of a few square yards, is hung over a line of sticks to dry and the barley is tied in bunches on a stick.

One of the sailors plays a bugle very well and sometimes in the evenings he performs for the passengers.
