* In the evening we went to the Royal Lyceum to see Liberty Hall acted by Edwin Terry who was supported by a pretty good company.

September 8, 1908.
This morning the interesting points of the Castle were shown us by an old character and his little dog. First he told us that the Castle moat never contained water and explained about the seven gates to the Castle and as we proceeded up the hill, pointed out the places where they had been, showing us four under one archway, It was the time for drill and we saw the soldiers marching to bagpipes, fine big men looking very picturesque in their Highland uniforms. The soldiers are very fond of dogs and the court yards are ful of them. The pet dogs that have died are buried in a little yard just below the Castle citadel with white stones at their heads and flowers growing on their graves.

We went into the little Norman Chapel of St. Margarets, the oldest building in Edwinburgh and the smallest church in Britain, also to the banqueting-hall, to Queen Mary's tiny bedroom
