hills might almost have been among the Fjords of Norway.

There was a man with a dulcimer, on the boat, who played like an artist. A dulcimer has a surprising range and sounds at times almost like three instruments. It seemed to belong to a boat and sounded beautiful.

It was a lovely still fall day and we started off with sketching equipment for Dalmally to spend the day with a friend.

Dalmally is a very small place prettily situated among the hills, a thirty mile ride by train from Oban, through a wild valley with pretty lakes and streams.

When we arrived at the station we walked a mile and a quarter, along a pretty road and crossed several quaint stone bridges.

We had an early lunch so as to leave us a long afternoon and then set off to go sketching. After walking about two miles we settled by a stream, running under an old stone bridge, with the hills in the
