Thinking that Edinburgh was a pleasanter city to stay in, we decided to go there while we were waiting for the weather to clear.

We were very glad to be in Edinburgh once more and started off to see Holyrood, the palace of the Scotch Royalty. It was an interesting walk down a long street through the old part of the City called the Royal Mile, leading from the Castle to the Palace.

All that is open to the Public is the apartments of Queen Mary and Lord Darnley, the picture gallery and the ruins of the Royal Chapel. The rooms look rather bare with their beds of tattered coverings and a few chairs.

Coming back we came by the way of the highroad and could look down on the city. The heavy atmosphere suited the dull buildings that stood out in fine outlines
