Making up our minds that it was useless to wait for the weather clearing up we decided to go to Stirling on the one P.M. train. While we were waiting for the train time we walked up to the Castle to see the soldiers drill, passing queer alleys of stone stairs on the way and stopped in the New College courtyard to see the statue of John Knox.

It being early in the afternoon when we arrived at Stirling and the and the rain having stopped we decided to do some sightseeing. Walking up one of the old streets occasionally stopping to look at a queer little building we came to the Gray Friars.

The Scotch are very fond of having towers about their buildings which gives the effect of houses in Fairy stories. Often the poorer classes have their entrances
