building with a huge white dome and wings on either side, overlooking the Potomac and is one of the largest and stateliest buildings in America.

In the entrance hall, which is the center of the building, is a beautiful head of Lincoln, by Gutzon Borglum, chiseled out of a block of marble and if you look up to the ceiling you can see the inside of the dome. In the left wing is the Congress room and in the right the Senate.

Leaving the Capital, we found our way to the Washington Monument, the huge shaft that is the dominating feature in the landscape.

That evening there was a large openning reception at the Corcoran Gallery for the exhibition that is held every two years and it was the principal cause of our trip.
