In my exhibition I am going to try to have all Hudson River work because that is the thing I love. You know it takes a foreigner to paint Europe and an American paints his own county best because its nearest his heart. The same way if I was a portrait painter. I could paint you the best because you are the one I love the best. A number of people like the things I did abroad, but my best friends and the people whose 

will be so happy when it comes. 

The elms in the picture I send are on the Circle in front of our home but I took the River and changed it around. I suppose thats Poetic license but it made a much better picture that way and I only wish the river showed up more plainly in the photograph.
