Dear Lee:

We are planning for the Bicentennial year an exhibition which will feature the work of the leading artists of Abstract Expressionism as the most significant art movement to fructify in this country's two hundred years of existence.

In this context, I should very much like to include a great POLLOCK and would like to have your suggestion in this regard. I would like something of the importance of the black and white painting which was acquired by Dr. Schmalenbach of Dusseldorf, perhaps [[crossed-out]] at [[/crossed-out]] this time in color.

Before enquiring of Marlborough, I thought it wise to first discuss the possibility with you.

In order to pinpoint the magnificence of their contribution to world art, the exhibition, in keeping with its theme, will be comprised only of major examples of the leaders of the movement.

Dates for the exhibition are soon opening, April 7 to May 1, 1976.

I trust this finds you in good spirits and working well and look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, as ever,
