EDMUND SEVERN, being duly sworn, says: I reside at No. 131 West 56th Street, Borough of Manhattan, City of New York. I knew the late Henry W. Ranger for about twenty-two years prior to his death and was intimately acquainted with him. I was with him for seven or eight weeks practically every summer for the last twelve years or more, that is, either in the same house with him or in a house near by. He talked with me a great deal about his affairs, both as to his sister and as to his intention of making a will.
About three or four years ago he told me that he intended to leave a will and that after providing for his wife all his property was to go to the National Academy of Design and he outlined to me the project which he had in mind which was similar to that incorporated in the will now offered for probate, dated January 21, 1914, of which I have seen a copy. I have no knowledge of his having executed any will subsequent to that of January 21, 1914.
I know that Mr. Ranger was estranged from his sister, Edith F. Ranger, for at least eight years ago he spoke to me on this subject. He wished me to see his sister and try to arrange for her to live with relatives at Weedsport or out of the City of New York, and at his request I tried to see the sister but she refused to receive me.
