ESTATE OF HENRY W. RANGER.
MEMORANDUM BY MR. PHELPS,
May 23, 1917.

I called at the studio, 33 West 67th Street, this morning about 8:30, and saw the Superintendent, Mr. Jonas. He told me that up to January, 1916, Mr. Ranger had a Japanese man in his employ, and that commencing with January 1, 1916 Mr. Ranger had a colored man. Mr. Jonas knows where both of these men are and will see them and find out what they can tell about Mr. Ranger's movements from Christmas 1915 to the end of the following month. Mr. Jonas who kept a little book which Mr. Jonas will examine and see what record there is of breakfasts served during that period. Mr. Jonas himself is very confident that Mr. Ranger was not out of the city from the time he came down from Noank, in October, until he sailed for Porto Rico, January 22nd.

I have sent for Mr. Johnstone, through whom I hope to get at the records of the Lotus Club; Mrs. Kittson, and old friend; and also Mr. and Mrs. Servern. Any of these may give information. I expect to have an interview likewise with Dr. Sillo, who may have treated Mr. Ranger during the period mentioned.
