Eunice darling - 

You have been so sweet about writing to me and telling me what you were doing both socially and financially that I want to write to you a great deal more often than I do, but it takes all the news I can scare up to fill a daily letter to mother. I guess she shares these with you, so you know fairly well what I am doing.

There is something that I have been wanting to tell you for months, and have put it off because you have had your hands full of your own problems and I didn't want you to have to think about anything else. However, I think you should know because we both share each others problems but being a good Scientist, you can understand why I haven't said anything to mother.
