over last May, for order General B. C. Ludlow, then commanding in the Dist. of the Peninsula, by Capt. Becker A.Q.M. to Capt E. W. Coffin acting Asst Supt. Bu. R. F. & A. L. York CO. Va. It was held, and turned over, as Q.M. property, and has been so reported ever since. It appears from the best evidence to be obtained, and Mrs H. herself so believes, that this horse was taken from her, in February or March 1865 by John Donnelly, then employed by Gov't as a leader of Scouting parties. Donnelly was sent out at the time by Col. J.J. Morrison then commanding at this post.
