Galveston, Texas
March 7th 1866

Col B.F. McDonough

Sir
Considering my very brief acquaintance I am taking perhaps an unwarranted liberty in transmitting the accompanying documents to you. But as a citizen of Texas I presume you will feel some interest in the Subject matter they contain.

Our able and noble President is at this critical juncture so occupied in things of more importance that it cannot be expected he will bestow much attention on this Subject, but believing that your near relations to him will enable you so to explain the main facts as will supersede the necessity of a minute investigation on his part, which his much engrossed time would not permit, I feel it a special favor to Texas to have so favorable an opportunity for presenting her grievances

I beg you will offer the homage of my best respects and kindest feelings to the President. No one [[strikethrough]] any [[/strikethrough]] more sincerely desires his triumph over all his enemies than

Your very obt sevt in haste
