Union College. Schenectady July 26 1866

The Rev C Van Sandtvoord is a highly esteemed clergyman of that most substantial denomination, the Reformed Dutch Church. He is descended from a line of clerical Ancestors noted for learning creed piety. 

Besides being a very acceptable preacher, Mr Van Sandtvoord has given more than ordinary attention to literature, and takes rank as an able and elegant writer. He wishes to obtain, the post of Chaplain in the new service, and besides the theological and literary qualifications aforesaid, the great recommendation is the faithful manner in which he has already discharged the responsible duties of that station at Nashville and at other posts during the greater part of the late war
