Personally appeared before me Edwin G. Brown, Moses Tucker, Sam Harwell and Taylor Bennett who being duly sworn depose and say as follows:

That they are residents of Giles County, State of Tennessee - that on the night of the 30" of June 1868 the KuKlux Klan came to their houses, and threatened them with hanging and took Sam Harwell from his house and beat him for refusing to tell where another colored man was concealed. That they worked on shares on the farms of Thos Harwell, Judge Willerford and William Webb, and that for fear their lives would be taken by the KuKlux Klan they left their homes and came to Nashville for protection. - that they were advised by their Employers to take this course.
