Before me personally appeared the undersigned Benton Davis and being duly Sworn deposes as follows.

My name is Benton Davis  I live in the City of Memphis Tenn. on the cor of Causey and South Sts. On the night of the 2" of May 1866. Some three or four Policemen came to my house and broke open my trunk taking therefrom my discharge and fifty dollars in Silver and fifteen in greenbacks after which they set fire to my house and burned it up not allowing me to take anything out. The policeman that broke open my trunk wore #43. upon his coat  When my mother attempted to take anything from the burning building she was shot at by the Policeman
