Personally appeared before me James W. Powell, a citizen of said County personally known to me as a man entitled to fine credit upon his oath and subscribed to the following oath, States that on the night of the 27th December 1866, a house upon his premises occupied by a colored man named Soloman Adams and his family who were in his employ was burned to the ground with all of its contents belonging to the colored man and his family and that he believes and will be able to prove that the act was committed by three or more white men named as follows, and citizens of the State of Kentucky Erisha Stanly, Henry Stanly, Tobe Ring, and others, he further states that he is a citizen of Robertson County Tennessee and lives north of Springfield about 10 miles and resides about one half mile from the Kentucky line and that the above named parties live about one half mile in Kentucky, so that the ordinary process of law can not reach them, and has reasons to believe that if a requisition was made by the Governor of the State of Tennessee upon the Governor of the State of Kentucky that no sheriff would be able to arrest them as they openly proclaim themselves to be a mob, thereby bidding open defiance to the
