Above is Old St. Mary's Church, built in 1853. It survived the 1906 fire and lives on happily in its oriental setting. The Chinese New Year festival is in progress with the festive dragon processing up Grant Avenue past a wedding and a banquet. Below in Portsmouth Square a class in Tai Chi takes place.

The next page shows Lombard Street's serpentine block, a favored spot for photographing cars and fashion models. On the right we move toward Telegraph Hill past the church of St. Peter and Paul's. The stepped slope of Telegraph Hill leads to Coit Tower. Just below it is a house built like a tower with a small dome on the top. It is visible from Broadway.
