The amendment to which your note refers might as well include all property, (always excepting cotton!,) of the late rebel government as only that which is in our possession, with provisions for sale of real estate, and confirmation of sales already made.
A few lines such as you wrote are quite a treat to me. The way in which you stood up for Whittlesey I think won general admiration. My Father wrote me it was "noble".
