Dear General,
I have written my monthly report this morning, and have taken occasion to deny some of the charges made by S. & F. The more I think of it, the more amazed I am at their course.

I would be glad to have my report published at once in some of the papers, if you think it judicious. If not let it rest. A cause that needs such support must be rotten indeed.
