Before me personally appeared the undersigned Edward Jackson and being duly sworn deposes as follows.

My name is Edward Jackson. I live in the City of Memphis Tenn. On the 2d of May 1866, while I was at my work in the City, the house I occupied was burned down. I had in my trunk $195.00/100. The woman who occupied half of the house stated that she saw the men set fire to the house, take the money and some other articles out of the trunk. I was afraid to go home until next day when I learned the disturbance was there. When I did get there I found all I had was gone.

I also had two diamond rings taken which had been presented to my sister (who is now dead) by her mistress.

I have often been offered $100. a piece for the rings. I lost Carpenter tools and other articles besides the money and rings to the amount of $180.00. The woman who occupied part of the house has since gone to Saint Louis
