Before me personally appeared the undersigned Harriet Moton and being duly sworn deposes as follows,

My name is Harriet Moton I live in the City of Memphis Tenn, on South Street near De Soto on the night of the 4" day of May 1866, four white men came to my house on a plea of hunting for arms. I told them "I had none, they asked me "if there were any men there." I told them no, they asked me "what I did have there, I told them "Nothing" they said "God" dam it we will burn the house up" and did so most of the articles it contained being consumed therein. My loss amounts to $125.00
