Wherein he states that on the night of the 2d day of May 1866 at Memphis Tenn, while returning from his work on the levee where he was employed he met a number of white men they asked him if he had been a soldier, upon his replying in the afirmative they called him a "dam smoked Yankee" Knocked him down with their clubs and robbed him of $50.00 in money and a watch worth $70.00
