Before me personally appeared the undersigned Africa Bailey and being duly sworn deposes as follows

My name is Africa Bailey. I live on South Street in the City of Memphis, on the night of the 2d day of May 1866 during the riot in the city a party of men who were around committing depredations and burning houses [[strikethrough]] bet [[/strikethrough]] burned a house belonging to myself and Gus Hardaway.  I could not tell who the men were my loss amounts to about $400.00
