Ben Hale and Cornelius Coffey, president of the N.A.A. are inspecting the broken shaft in the center photo which forced the flyers down at Sherwood, Ohio, on May 10. Coffey rushed a new shaft to the pair, enabling them to resume their air tour on May 13. While in Washington White and Spencer dropped in on Congressman Everett McKinley Dirksen (Rep. Illinois). Dirksen introduced the amendment to the Civil Aeronautics bill in the house of representatives prohibiting discrimination on account of Race, creed or color in administration of the benefits of the act.
