Deposition of Blunt King Policeman of the town of Goldsboro.

On Monday the 4th day of June 1866 about 12 O'clock M. I was standing near Granger's Hotel about fifty years from the guard house  Mr. John Griswold enquired of me if I had arrested Bryant yet. I told him I had not, he (Mr. Griswold) then pointed him (Bryant) out to me  I went, and called him toward me, he came and I told him he was under arrest. Said he "What am I under arrest for"  I said "it is not my business to tell you, you must go to the Guard House"  said he "I'll be God Damned if I go until you tell me what I am arrested for". I said "The Mayor is over yonder  let us go and see what he arrested you for, what have you got your hand in your pocket for?" I stepped back from him about two steps, I said "You are not a going are you?"  he said nothing to me and Jim Jones (freedman) came up, he says "go with Massa Blunt to the Guard House", Bryant walked along quietly with me, as I got to the horse rack, (about forty yards from the Guard House) when Mr. George Morrow came up and said "come Bryant go to the Guard House" before I started, then, to the Guard House.
