Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen & Abandoned Lands,
HEADQUARTERS ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA,
Raleigh, N.C., July 11, 1866.

General,
I have the honor to state that by the provisions of Special Orders No 322. Extract 5. AGO. of date July 7' 1866, Surgeon M. K. Hogan, US Vols, is honorably mustered out of the service of the United States.
Dr Hogan has long been on duty in this state as Surgeon in Chief - & is the only Medical Officer, not a Contract Surgeon, attached to the Bureau in North Carolina. He cannot well be spared - and I have the honor to request that he be allowed to remain on duty at these Head Quarters, unless some other Surgeon US Vols can be assigned in his stead.-
