further planning of the program which should take the form of a detailed economic survey of the profession by means of a questionnaire, worked out with adequate technical assistance in the manner of the surveys recently completed of the legal profession and of a group of symphony orchestras in America.  All material will be received anonymously from members of professional societies throughout the country.

There is reason to believe that financial assistance to accomplish this end may be obtained if sufficient indication of interest and support is forthcoming from the artists' organizations to whom this appeal is being made.  All that will be required is cooperation in making contact with members of your organization, some assurance of a reasonable response on their part, and the counsel of one or two members in planning the survey.

With adequate cooperation, this undertaking should prove to be of crucial importance for the future of art and of inestimable value to the artistic profession.
