Dear Dorothy,

Thank you for your letter of the 7 November about Chryssa and the possibility of an exhibition of her work at the Tate.

I have already talked to my staff here about the proposal for a Chryssa exhibition which was put to me by a friend of hers who came by and left a lot of material with us. Our position, I am afraid, is that we are fully booked through 1975 which is going to be a particularly busy year for us as it should mark the moment of the opening of our extension as well as being the bicentenary of Turner's birth. I have explained the situation to Chryssa, whom I have met once or twice, and whose work I know quite well from several years past, and I have suggested that we might ask the Arts Council if they would undertake such an exhibition in their own gallery at South Bank. This has not yet been done, but the request is in motion and it will go to the Arts Council when their exhibitions committee next meets.

I am glad that you are more than fully employed since you left the Museum, and perhaps we can look forward to seeing you when we come to New York at the beginning of December.

With kind regards,

Yours sincerely,

Norman Reid
