A Neon Box

The neon tubing shapes cut shapes of letters. The fragments I incorporate into my work are repeated like a machine product. The plexiglass case that encloses the neon tubing repeats the work in all directions.

I choose the color of the case because it resembles night or darkness which relates to my original concept.

All the words I have used mean something precise to me.

I FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT MEDIA AND MOST OF ALL ABOUT THE INDEPENDENCE OF MY LIGHT SCULPTURES FROM THE TECHNOLOGY. A reference can be made to static [[strikethrough]] static [[?]] letter form and translucency of materials [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] [[?]]

When the sculpture lights up it is only one aspect of "how it works," When the box is not lit it is a different aspect of the same thing of "how it works."

The dark interval is never long enough for me. I do not expect or want anybody to wait for the moment when the sculpture lights up. I never do that myself when I have my works around me. I look through them all the time. That is how I communicate with these light or dark intervals.

I am familiar with the problem areas that the artist deals with today. It is natural for me to see contemporary art easier because it is of my time.

I have great difficulties in seeing the works of the past. For example, it took me several visits over a period of years to the Rodin Musuem in Paris to SEE Rodin's sculpture.

I realize in industry nature and in nature, industry. There are in nature some plants that look as if they were made of glass, like commercially made products, and industry created products that look as if they were made by nature. Often industry, of course, imitates nature, like in the case of the plastic plants that looks like the real thing or plastic bugs or flies and other such efforts. While I am talking about all this, sculpture is always in mind.

I have caught myself often in the act of taking various examples, like a section of nature, and knowing that it is made up of or includes earth, water, sky, plants, trees, bugs, birds, etc. and trying to find out how the whole thing works and functions. Or a section of the city and thinking of roads, cars, houses, subways, people, etc. and trying to find out how the whole thing "works" and often I take details of these sections and keep thinking in the same way. I also
