Dear Hedda:

Thank you so much for your January 5 letter. I was amazed at your report that Marietta Stern seems to have moved from her apartment in Venice. I had a Christmas greeting from her from Paris but I assumed she was simply visiting a friend there. How too bad if she is not returning to Venice, for I felt sure that you two would enjoy knowing each other. She is indeed the same person who was selling two Brancusi sculptures for a friend in Romania who wanted to escape.

I am terribly worried to hear about your prolonged bronchitis and fever. I do hope it has gone away by now. If it hasn't you probably should not be in Venice where it is so damp.
