FEITELSON ON ART : NEW SERIES, beginning March 27th, 1960

THEME SERIES : 20TH CENTURY ART - TRENDS AND PERSONALITIES.

This series of programs is planned to cover the most significant aspects of the art of our century - not only what is generally called "modern", but also those realistic and personal expressions which do not fit the popular conception of "modern art". Program subjects will include: such well-publicized and familiar artists as Matisse, Brancusi, etc.; already historic movements such as Fauvism, Surrealism, etc.; vanguard art too recent to be known to the general public; and many important artists who helped to form the art of this century, but whose work has been unjustly neglected in recent years; such painters, for example, as Sorolla, Zorn, Lieberman, and the Americans, Bellows and Luks, who gave a definitely 20th century expression to the painterly approach to realism begun by Velasquez and Franz Hals. Deserved emphasis will be given to contributions made by American [[strikethrough]] s [[/strikethrough]] artists.

Program #1 - Sunday, March 27th: SOROLLA (Joaquin Sorolla, 1863 - 1923)

One of the most celebrated painters during the early years of the 20th century; represented in museums throughout the world. Probably the most facile master of realism, Sorolla had no equal as a painter of the human form bathed in sunlight.
