* When a dead colouring is much sunk in, that requires to be repainted, especially in the shadowy portions of the flesh, the hair & background, it will often be found a quick & agreable process to glaze, [[strikethrough]] it [[/striekthrough]] with a soft new Brush, the whole, thinly with fine Ivory black, equalizing it by rubbing it over with a piece of soft sponge or rag. Into this preparation the additional paint works pleasantly & the gray tints especially amalgamate with the pellicle of black which has [[strikethrough]] tinged [[/strikethrough]] scarcely tinged the surface. This process is the most desireable, when the dead colouring is a little too light or fresh coloured.
