he grinds, and its mixtures on the Palette. It is only when in the condition of drying that its effluvia, then so evident to the smell, is injurious - not to the lungs, but to the stomach, if swallowed with the Saliva. It is therefore desirous that his pictures should be placed to dry in a separate Room. In White Lead manufactories it is otherwise, the whole atmosphere of the Room [[strikethrough]] being [[/strikethrough]] is filled with the fine dust of the pigment, which, being drawn into the mouth, adheres to the saliva, & when swallowed proves injurious. I know a white lead Manufacturer who enjoined on all his workmen not to swallow their Saliva, not to drink within the premises - the consequence was, [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] as I witnessed, that his men were as healthy as any other workmen & never suffered with what [[strikethrough]] they [[/strikethrough]] is called the Painter's Colic.
