Dear Abby,

We have dated your Rembrandt Peale "Fine Arts Lecture." We narrowed it down to the late 1830's by the internal evidence in the text and then checked the local papers for notices. Enclosed are xeroxes announcing the lecture being delivered in Philadelphia on January 3, 1839. I am also sending you the notes we have in our files that are taken from the later version of the lecture that is on the Peale Papers microfiche. These notes were taken by Mrs. Carries Sheflow who has been assisting me on this project during the past year. Her comments are appended to the first page. I tend to think that Rembrandt may never have completed his revision of the 1839 Lecture because he became more interested in delivering his increasingly successful George Washington Lecture.

Many thanks for your help last week and the lovely lunch. I truly enjoyed meeting you and look forward to seeing you again.

Sincerely,

Carol
