You put me in a very embarrassing position. I would like very much to write the Guggenheim recommendation for Pippin who deserves the greatest amount of encouragement but do you know that my standing with the "Guggenheim" is absolutely worthless? For a good many years I have written recommendations for applicants and some very talented ones, but have never had the pleasure or privilege of seeing any one of my people receive the fellowship.
