Dear Mr. Carlen:

I am sending you enclosed our check in the amount of $100.00, in payment for the painting by Horace Pippin "Roses in a Red Jar", which was purchased from our exhibition of his paintings. Would you kindly sign the enclosed receipt, which is necessary for our files.

I am also sending you under separate cover, the list of press notices on this show that we have so far received from our clipping bureau. They are still trickling in and I will inform you of any additions. Our man Eddie gave Mr. Pippin the duplicate clippings we had on hand when he paid his last visit to the gallery, and I am sending in the envelope some additional ones we have since received. Also enclosed I am returning to you the clippings you sent to us before the exhibition, and also some of your own photographs sent at the same time. In case you should need them, I am also returning the extra copies of your catalogue of last year. I trust that all this will reach you safely.

I know Mr. Macdonald had wanted to write to you personally, but as he has been out-of-town, I felt sure you would be glad to receive the check meantime.

Sincerely yours,
M. Sharkey
