Carlen Galleries
323 South 16th Street
Philadelphia, Pa.

My dear Mr. Carlen:

Thank you for your letter of February 28th regarding the exhibition of HORACE PIPPIN.

The dates we offer for his show are May 23rd to June 15th. We would like the pictures to be shipped about a week in advance, about May 15th to arrive in good time for unpacking and installation.

We will have the formal opening on Friday, May 23rd with a tea from four to six o'clock.

We cannot house a very large exhibition and suggest that possibly about 25 paintings of average size would be sufficient. (We would be glad to have you give us an idea of the general size of Pippin's pictures).

Your suggestions about including Mr. Charles Laughton's picture, as well as those from the Barnes Foundation, would add to the interest of the exhibit. The article by Dr. Albert Barnes in your catalogue will be adequate for our purpose.

As to arrangements for assembling, shipping, etc., we will assume all costs of packing, shipping and insurance.

We will be glad to accept your offer of assembling the exhibit, but believe it would cut down expenses if you would arrange to have the private loans shipped direct to -

The others from your galleries you can ship direct to us from Philadelphia.
