Dear Mr. Carlen:

I long wanted to thank you for your interesting letter of last Fall about Horace Pippin's paintings, which I have never had the pleasure of seeing but, hope to sometime in the near future. Unfortunately I was not in New York at the time of his exhibit and I have been out here on the coast all winter. But I note from friends and from what I read in the papers that he must be a topnotch artist. I appreciate very much your having written me about him.
