THE DOWNTOWN GALLERY Edith Gregor Halpert, Director 43 EAST 51 STREET • NEW YORK November 7, 1941 Mr. Robert Carlen Carlen Galleries 323 South 16th Street Philadelphia, Pa. Dear Mr. Carlen: Thank you so much for sending us the paintings. I am particularly delighted with the latest Pippin. It is a beauty. I should like to retain all three, although I am not sure that I can hang that number as one artist's representation. Can you give me the selling prices and the commission? As indicated in our original outline, this Gallery is not taking any commission but will charge a sales commission and the entire sum will be used as a contribution toward the fund. Can you also let me know whether you have any way of obtaining pictures by the following artists: Samuel Brown Dox Thrash Claude Clark Raymond Stith We have written to them directly but thus far have had no reply. As a matter of fact, the Stith letter addressed to 1530 Lombard Street, Philadelphia, was returned marked "Not Here". I shall be very grateful for any suggestions you can make. Sincerely yours, Edith Halpert EGH:T Telephone PLAZA 3-3707
