THE DOWNTOWN GALLERY

Edith Gregor Halpert, Director

43 EAST 51 STREET, NEW YORK 22, N. Y.

April 24, 1945

Dear Bob:

We are putting the Pippin "Saturday Night Bath" in our forthcoming exhibition, but one of our clients is interested in purchasing it. However, she too feels that the price is highly exaggerated. Both you and Pippin must bear in mind that he is no more important as an artist than Kuniyoshi, Zerbe, Karfiol, Davis and others, and his prices are now reaching figures way beyond. I believe it is a great mistake in spite of the fact that our publicity and sales pressure has created the interest. On occasions we can force the issue to a high figure. If Pippin wants to maintain a market, he had better get down to earth.

The woman offered $800, which I consider the right price for the picture, but I think I can get her up to $900. Please let me know immediately as I promised to communicate with her in a couple of days.

Sincerely yours

Edith
