Dear Bob,

Klees just arrived. Pretty scratchy affairs, used as door mats apparently. Small one with some charm however and will buy it for $250 flat. Will wait to hear from you and then ship one or both back according to your desire. The other stuff leaves then, too. Meaning two Pippins, the Weighardt and the old fashioned bird. This means I am keeping the other two Pippins, "Water Boy" & "Man on Park Bench", agreeing to your price of one thousand for the two. Your check for the two will leave here next week, not later.

It is very hot here, but hotter in Europe from what I read. I wonder what I am doing looking at paintings in a house, cool & calm, and then I realize that I am not cool and not calm and that very very soon the sleeves must be rolled up. No peace in our time, it seems.

Best regards,

Clifford Odets
